Poneke Dojo is passionate about the idea that Kyokushin Karate can add value to just about anyone, regardless of age, gender or physicality.

"If you think about the different groups within the club like legs on a table then the traditionalists, the competitive fighters, the children and the recreationists all play an important role keeping the club vibrant and successful."

What is Kyokushin Karate?

Kyokushin Karate is known as ‘The Strongest Karate’. It is a full-contact, bare-knuckle karate style famous for hard training characterised by power, endurance and knock-out kicks. At Poneke Dojo they train some of the best fighters in the country while also supporting members who just want a fun and challenging way to get fit.

As much as possible the dojo recruit young black belts and experienced high grades to teach their young people.  These young leaders are amazing role models and teach young people so much more than how to throw a kick.

There really is no substitute for experience so do visit the dojo and see for yourself.

Is it okay if I have never done any martial arts before?

This is the norm. The dojo is not like a gym… everyone knows each other’s names. Full contact training demands two way care and cooperation, so your needs/level will be respected just as there is an expectation that respect will be reciprocated.
